SIA Update: Mandatory Refresher Training for Licence Renewal

Starting 1 April 2025, all SIA Door Supervisors must complete SIA Refresher Training in East London before applying for licence renewal. This ensures professionals stay updated with essential security skills.

Refresher & Top-Up Training for Door Supervisors:

✅ From April 2025, completing a refresher qualification will be mandatory for renewal.
✅ Until 31 March 2025, Door Supervisors with pre-April 2021 qualifications must complete either Top-Up Training or Refresher Training before renewal.

First Aid Requirement:

Before enrolling, candidates must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) or an equivalent qualification. Both First Aid and SIA Refresher Training must be completed before applying for an SIA licence renewal.

Course Overview:

Unit 1: Key Responsibilities of a Door Supervisor:

– Conducting effective search procedures.
– Safeguarding vulnerable individuals.
– Identifying terror threats and managing security risks.
– Preventing incidents of spiking in venues.

Assessment:
– Multiple-choice exam (35 questions, 55 minutes).
– Practical assessment on search procedures.

Unit 2: Practical Physical Intervention Skills:

– Understanding intervention risks.
– Minimising risks while handling interventions.
– Developing self-protection skills.
– Applying safe non-pain compliant techniques.

Assessment:
– Multiple-choice exam (30 questions, 45 minutes).
– Practical intervention assessment.
– Oral Q&A session.

Options for Door Supervisors:

✅ Complete the Door Supervisor Refresher Course to renew your licence.
✅ Take the Security Guard Refresher Course to transition to a Security Guard licence.

First Aid Training Update (Effective 1 October 2024):

From 1 October 2024, EFAW training must include:
– Managing life-threatening bleeding.
– Ensuring airway clearance.
