Who Needs to Complete the SIA Refresher Training?
If you are an SIA Security Guard Licence holder, you are required to complete refresher training before your licence renewal. This applies to:
– Security guards applying for licence renewal after 1 April 2025.
– Security personnel whose qualifications were obtained before April 2021.
– Individuals who have not yet completed the SIA Top-Up Training.
Important Note: Before enrolling in the refresher training, you must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate or an equivalent qualification. Both First Aid and Security Guard Refresher Training are required to renew your licence.
SIA Security Guard Refresher Training: Key Topics Covered
Unit 1: Security Guard Responsibilities (Refresher)
This unit updates security guards on essential responsibilities and industry best practices.
LO1: Conducting effective search procedures following legal and ethical guidelines.
LO2: Safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring public safety.
LO3: Understanding terrorism threats and the role of security personnel in emergencies.
Assessment:
Multiple-choice test: 28 questions (45 minutes).
Practical assessment: Demonstration of security search techniques.
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Requirement
From 1 October 2024, all security guards must complete a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) training before attending the refresher course.
The first aid training covers:
Managing life-threatening bleeding: Controlling severe injuries effectively.
Clearing and maintaining open airways: Handling breathing emergencies.
CPR & AED Usage: Performing life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responding to medical emergencies: Managing sudden health issues in high-risk situations.

From 1 April 2025, all Security Guards renewing their licence must take this refresher training especially those who qualified before April 2021.
Note: If you hold a Door Supervisor licence, you must take the Door Supervisor Refresher course instead.
