SIA Security Guard Refresher Training Aldgate

Since 1 April 2025, every Security Guard must complete refresher training before the SIA will renew their licence. Our SIA Security Guard Refresher Training Aldgate covers that requirement in a single Saturday, with Emergency First Aid taught inside the same day.

We hold it at 6 Osborn Street, London E1 6TD, seconds from Aldgate East station.

One Saturday, No Leave Required

Security officers rarely have spare weekdays. Consequently this course runs as a single Saturday rather than a midweek session. You arrive at 9:00 AM, complete the refresher unit and your First Aid, and finish by 5:30 PM with your renewal requirement cleared.

No annual leave. No lost shifts. No second visit.

Time Your Renewal Properly

Most renewal problems come down to timing rather than difficulty. Here is how the sequence actually works:

First, complete your refresher and First Aid. Then your results arrive within 14 to 15 working days. After that, you submit your SIA application, and approval can take up to eight weeks.

Altogether that is roughly three months from booking to badge. Therefore we recommend booking three to four months before your expiry date. Because a lapsed licence stops you working front-line entirely, the lost shifts cost considerably more than the course.

Who Needs to Complete the Refresher Training

From 1 April 2025 — all Security Guards renewing their licence must complete a refresher qualification. ✅ Qualified before April 2021 — you must complete either Top-Up Training or Refresher Training before renewal. ✅ Switching licence type — take the refresher for the role you are moving into.

Hold a Door Supervisor licence instead? You need the SIA Door Supervisor Refresher Training, which runs over two days rather than one.

Key Topics Covered

Unit 1: Security Officer Responsibilities in the Private Security Sector (Refresher)

– LO1: Conducting effective search procedures – LO2: Ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals – LO3: Understanding terrorism threats and the role of security personnel in emergencies

Assessment: – Multiple-choice test. 28 questions (45 minutes) – Practical assessment, demonstrating search techniques

Results are usually released within 14 to 15 working days, by email or SMS.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Included

Since 1 October 2024, first aid training must cover managing life-threatening bleeding, plus clearing and maintaining open airways. This aligns with Health and Safety Executive standards.

We teach it as part of your Aldgate refresher day, so you will not need a separate EFAW booking. Already hold an in-date certificate? Bring proof and let us know when you book.

Where the Aldgate Course Runs

Osborn Street sits at the bottom of Brick Lane, where it meets Whitechapel High Street. Aldgate East is seconds away on the District and Hammersmith & City lines. Aldgate covers the Circle and Metropolitan a few minutes on, while Liverpool Street and Whitechapel both bring the Elizabeth line within a short walk.

For security officers, the location works beyond the commute. The City of London boundary is five minutes west, and corporate reception, building security and static guarding contracts run there year-round. Meanwhile Spitalfields Market adds retail monitoring, the Royal London Hospital sits along Whitechapel Road, and the development sites across Aldgate need licensed officers on gates and patrols.

Most officers renewing here already work within a mile or two of the classroom.

How to Book

  1. First, choose a Saturday from the dates above
  2. Then select your deposit and click Book Course
  3. Next, fill in your billing details and confirm
  4. Finally, attend the full day and settle the £100 balance at the centre

Once you pass, apply through the SIA licence application service. We also recommend the free ACT counter-terrorism training, which employers increasingly ask for and costs nothing.
