SIA Refresher Course in South West London
Our SIA Refresher course in South West London combines your mandatory SIA Top-Up qualification with Emergency First Aid at Work, so you clear both renewal requirements in a single booking. Because the course covers Door Supervisor and Security Guard pathways from the same venue, you can renew your current licence or switch between licence types without booking twice.
Training runs at 108 Battersea High Street, London SW11 3HP, a short walk from Clapham Junction.
Mandatory From 1 April 2025
Since 1 April 2025, the SIA will not renew a Door Supervisor or Security Guard licence unless you hold a current refresher qualification. Therefore you need this course if you are renewing on or after that date, if you qualified before April 2021 and never completed your Top-Up, or if you are moving between licence categories.
Timing matters more than difficulty. If your badge expires before both your refresher and your renewal complete, you cannot legally work front-line until the new licence arrives. Consequently most officers book three to four months ahead of expiry, because the lost shifts cost considerably more than the course itself.
Emergency First Aid Is Included
You must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, or an accepted equivalent, before the SIA will process your renewal. However, plenty of officers discover this only after booking a refresher elsewhere, then have to find a separate first aid provider and take another day off.
Our combined course removes that problem. Since the October 2024 update, your EFAW covers controlling life-threatening bleeding and maintaining an open airway, in line with current HSE standards.
Door Supervisor Refresher — 2 Days
Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor
First, you refresh effective search procedures, safeguarding vulnerable people, terror threat awareness and preventing spiking incidents. You then sit a 35-question multiple choice examination over 55 minutes, followed by a practical search assessment.
Unit 2: Physical Intervention Skills
Next, you cover the risks and legal implications of going hands on, risk reduction strategies, and non-pain-compliant holding and escorting techniques. Afterwards, you complete a 30-question examination over 45 minutes, a practical assessment, and an oral question and answer session.
Practise the format beforehand with our free DS Top-Up Refresher Mock Exam.
Security Guard Refresher — 1 Day
Unit 1: Security Officer Responsibilities
Meanwhile, the one-day pathway refreshes effective search procedures, keeping vulnerable individuals safe, recognising terror threats, and your responsibilities during an emergency. You then sit a 28-question examination over 45 minutes plus a practical search demonstration.
Try our free SG Top-Up Refresher Mock Exam before you attend.
Your Options
If you currently hold a Door Supervisor licence, you can either complete the Door Supervisor Refresher and renew as you are, or complete the Security Guard Refresher and switch to a Security Guard licence.
Above all, choose the pathway matching the licence you intend to hold, not the one you hold now. If you are unsure, call us before you pay and we will check it against your badge.
Getting to Our Battersea Venue
The SIA Refresher course in South West London runs from 108 Battersea High Street, SW11 3AH, a short walk from Clapham Junction, the busiest interchange in the country by train frequency. As a result, you can reach us directly from almost anywhere in South West London and Surrey without crossing the river. Battersea Park and Queenstown Road stations sit nearby, and several bus routes serve Battersea High Street and Falcon Road.
Therefore officers travel easily from Clapham, Wandsworth, Putney, Balham, Tooting, Streatham, Fulham, Chelsea, Vauxhall, Wimbledon, Kingston and Richmond. Because the refresher runs only one or two days, most people fit it around a working week without losing shifts. Once you book, we send full joining instructions.
Add the Free ACT Counter-Terrorism Training
Counter-terrorism awareness sits outside the refresher assessment, but employers increasingly ask for it and it costs nothing. Complete both modules online in your own time: ACT Security e-Learning and ACT Awareness e-Learning. Our ACT Training guide walks you through it.
