Free SIA security mock test
Twenty eight questions in 45 minutes on searching, diverse needs, terror threat awareness, vulnerable people and safeguarding, the one paper on the one day Security Guard refresher.
Each attempt picks a new set of questions from a bank of 38, so you can practise as often as you like.
Confirm whether the item is suspicious, Clear people from the area, Cordon it off and Control access until the police arrive and take charge.
The driver opens each part of the vehicle. This keeps the officer safe, avoids damage claims, and means the officer never touches anything that might be hazardous.
JTAC assesses intelligence and sets the threat level for international terrorism. The Security Service, MI5, sets the levels for other kinds of terrorism.
An item that may be evidence should be kept in the condition it was found, bagged and labelled, with a record of the find. This keeps the chain of evidence intact for the police.
Control of documents, fear, and dependence on one person are indicators of modern slavery. Concerns should be reported to a supervisor and can be passed to the police or the Modern Slavery Helpline.
Ask for Angela is a code word scheme used in bars and venues. Staff respond by taking the person somewhere safe, calling a friend or a taxi, or calling the police if needed.
The question bank has 38 questions across these topics. Every attempt mixes them at random.
The Security Guard refresher is one day with one written paper. It is built from the parts of the security officer syllabus that changed after many licence holders first trained: searching, diverse needs, counter terrorism awareness and safeguarding. There is no physical intervention unit on the security guard pathway, so there is no second paper.
Short, direct questions. Where should you stand when searching a bag? Which threat level means an attack is highly likely? What do you do if a colleague says a regular visitor is behaving oddly around the children's play area? The explanations give the procedure, and the procedure is what the real paper is checking.
Twenty questions is a quick round, so do several in practice mode, then sit the full 28 question paper against the clock once or twice. Most candidates pass the refresher comfortably once they have seen the newer topics.
Yes. From 1 April 2025 the SIA asks Security Guard licence holders to complete the one day refresher, and to hold a valid first aid certificate, before renewing.
